From Early Victorian to the Early 1960s, the San Fernando Valley Historical Society has an amazing collection of antique and vintage clothing. All donated, most of the clothing has never been displayed to the public. Curator Maya DeBus will present some of the best pieces and show how their iconic silhouettes were achieved. How were bustles constructed? How did historical events change fashions? Following her presentation in the courtyard, you will be able to see many items up close inside the first floor of the Adobe.
Maya has been on the Board of Directors of the SFVHS since 2016 and Editor of this newsletter since 2018. She collects and sells vintage hats and purses and has a personal collection of Victorian clothing. She also leads school tours at Leonis Adobe in Calabasas. Her other programs include “Why the Roaring Twenties Roared,” “History and Make-Up: How Events Shaped How We Look” and “The Life of a Lady in 1901.”
Come to this interesting program and see treasures from our collection up close. Also, you will be able to get a glimpse of the interior of the Adobe, not usually accessible during Speaker Meetings!
